Over the course of time, I have found myself becoming more adept at seeking new anime and manga to read or watch, mainly depending on how bored I was at the time. At first, like a lot of people, I had a hard time finding places on the net that would give me consistent updates and a place to speak with a community of like minded people. Also it was rare for me to find a place to list all the new releases in a convenient and reliable format. Luckily, I have found a few sites that may help you in your search for your next fix!
Firstly we have the definitive source for news and upcoming events in the anime world, Anime News Network. This is pretty much the first thing you will find on Google when searching Anime, that has to do with news and updates. It's pretty much up to date on all forms of news whether its interesting or not. It's great for watching some anime as well, and the community it is built around is also friendly and responsive. The only downside I see is that it doesn't have a dedicated part of the site towards new seasons (besides the reviews). Otherwise I find it to be really reliable, and worth it to get involved in the community.
Next up is One Manga. Again, this is the first thing that pops up on Google when you search Manga. And there is a good reason for that. Depending on the manga it regularly updates the series' they support and it's conveniently shown on the front page. It has an archive and sorts it by genre as well, so when your mood takes you it would be easy to find a new manga and just pick. It also has a random button, which will bring you to a (obviously) random manga. Good for when you are in the mood for anything really. The only bad thing I find about this site is it doesn't update some of it's manga as regularly as they are released by the translators.
The third and final site I recommend, is another blog by a great blogger named Chartfag. Don't let the name of the site deter you, I have found it to be a lifesaver when it comes to finding a greatly organized chart for the current season's shows. It packs all the shows into a grid with descriptions and pictures, and also lists continuations and OVA's. It's definately the most handy of the three sites in my opinion, and the one I use the most when the new season comes around.
These three sites are definately good places to start if you are looking for something good to 'scratch your itch'. And of course, you can always look in my review section to see if anything catches your interest.
